An Unnecessary Crossover Between Young Justice and the Stammering Adrien AU of Miraculous Ladybug

BMFBMLBME Chapter 25

Chloe sat tensely in her seat, waiting for the moment Officer Raincomprix would show up.

They had tried to keep it under wraps for the most part, only bringing in Adrien and Sabrina to get more evidence and help actually presenting that evidence.

They had been lucky enough that Sabrina’s dad had decided to humor them.

They had been even luckier that it had been determined an actual case by the police.

Now they just had to wait.

Soon enough, the police would come in, arrest Lila, and it would be over.

Chloe sent a glance to Max, nodding subtly as they made eye contact.

An unwitting ally, someone she had never expected to align herself with.

Then again, that had been almost her exact relationship with Marinette.

Unwitting allies turned friends.

Chloe had tried coming to terms with the fact she may never see Marinette again. That her presence may never impact Chloe’s life ever again.

It was hard, a gritting pain she had to force herself through with the help of her therapist.

Chloe hadn’t been able to save Marinette.

But she could do this.

She could avenge her.

Bring her tormentor to justice.

Save the people Marinette had loved so dearly from that evil bitch's clutches.

Chloe couldn’t hide her smile as Officer Raincomprix finally knocked on the classroom door.

“Lila Rossi, you are under arrest for criminal use of meta-abilities, use of undocumented meta-abilities, and the suspicion of premediated murder and the attempted murder of Marinette Dupain-Cheng-”

Chloe stopped listening after that, buzzing filling her ears as shock and horror passed over her classmates faces.

As confusion and realization hit several people.

Shouts sounded around the room, questions and accusations alike, but Chloe had eyes for only one person.

Lila fucking Rossi.

Lila didn’t even blink, she didn’t seem shocked or scared in any sense of the word.

“Officer Raincomprix? What do you mean?” Lila asked softly, deceptively innocent and close to tears.

Chloe watched, from behind her rose-tinted glasses, as the tinge of green floated around her eyes, watched as the colour grew more intense as she used more of her power.

Chloe watched as the colour was cut off abruptly as a second officer slapped meta-inhibitor cuffs on her, locking away her abilities.

Righteous glee filled Chloe’s entire being as she watched the beginnings of fear settle into Lila’s expression.

Finally, finally her little empire was crumbling around her.

Their classmates were free, her past victims would get their justice, and most importantly, Marinette would get her justice.

Chloe wasn't sure how deeply affected the class had been, how much help they would need to figure out what reality was again.

But she would help them.

She would help them in all the ways she wished she had been able to help Marinette.

Chloe was going to do better.

After Lila was taken out of the classroom, Officer Raincomprix reentered the room to explain everything.

Normally, it would have been kept quiet from their classmates.

But they were all victims in this situation.

So, an exception had been made.

Officer Raincomprix had pulled up a presentation to show all of the evidence. He broke down everything that Lila had done over the years and how it seemed she had been targeting Marinette as her next victim.

He explained how Lila had used her meta-abilities to influence their thoughts and actions to turn them against Marinette.

He explained how none of them were at fault for what had happened and were just as much victims as Marinette.

Those words were what ended up sending everyone over the edge.

Sure, they hadn’t meant to hurt Marinette, but they had.

And that made the pain unbearable.

After his explanation and telling them resources where they could get help, he had left.

Leaving Chloe to deal with the fallout.

“Chloe?”

Chloe turned to look at Alya, tears running down her face.

“Yes, Alya?” Chloe asked.

“I… I was a horrible friend to Marinette, wasn’t I?” Alya asked softly, her expression more fragile than Chloe had ever seen.

Chloe herself, was surprised but how softly she had responded.

“It wasn’t your fault.”

The Most Hated Girl In Paris Au: Chloe Salt and Possible Redemption

Overview: Listen, I may not like the direction Chloe’s character has taken or what she represents [the white woman tears, rich, privileged, nepo-baby, classist, fascist, racist], but I myself love a redemption journey, ya know, as long as they prove that they deserve a chance or earned it!

One of my (many) problems with Chloe Bourgeois isn’t her nonexistent redemption arc but the fact that many of her stans and a select number of characters within the show are just handing her chances on a silver platter (which she acts like she’s entitled to anyways) without any effort on Chloe’s part to earn or deserve them. This is not a redemption. This is just handing a spoiled brat undeserved chances of the off chance that she’ll change. And she doesn’t. In fact, it just makes her look worse.

That brings me to my next point: Consequences. This is how I knew for a fact that Chloe’s “redemption” arc was never real from the start. Because never at any point during her arc was she given any actual long-term consequences for the way she behaves or how she treats people. In Writing 101, the foundation of a character’s change for the better would be them realizing that their actions have an impact on other people, their surroundings, and/or themselves. The next step should be a slap in the face from reality. For the rug to be pulled underneath them and they’re forced deal with the fact that it isn’t always about them and that they are not all that. But with Miss Bourgeois, we never see any of that. If anything, she believes that she’s entitled to the endless chances at redemption that everyone keeps giving her. And is actively defended by others who correctly call her out on her inability to grow and learn. When people try to help Chloe change or give her an example to follow, it just inflates her ego. No wonder everyone’s given up on her.

With these writing and character flaws in mind, I’ve come up with an AU where Chloe’s actions have piled up and now she has to decide if she wants to make things worse for herself or actually change and be able to love.

It starts with Queen Wasp, where the train crash incident actually leads to numerous people pressing charges against her, whether they were on the train or had family members who were on the train. Since Chloe is a minor, the best they could do was an ankle monitor for an indefinite amount of time. Given how she’s also stolen a miraculous, she’s not allowed to be outside when there’s an akuma attack.

In typical Chloe fashion, she just keeps digging her grave while cheering herself up. By making everyone else feel worse. However, seeing as Chloe was being held accountable by the law, the school staff feel more comfortable punishing Chloe for her bullying and harassment of other students. She threatens to get her “Daddy-kins” involved, but they argue a point back that makes her blood run cold. If Mayor Andre Bourgeois cracks down on his daughter who has been famously dubbed “Train Witch” it may be the final push that’ll end with her father not being re-elected. Seeing no other way out of it, Chloe must go through detention for the first time in her school career.

Given how Roger Raincomprix stands for the pursuit of justice and safety, I have no idea how he still allows Sabrina to be friends with someone who by all accounts, should have a criminal record. In this AU, Officer Raincomprix forbids his daughter from being friends with Chloe and to steer clear of someone he views as a budding criminal. Parents of the students who attend Francois DuPont also follow suit. They tell their kids to stay away from the Mayor’s daughter and to not associate themselves with her. They’ve done this before the train incident. (As we’re shown in canon, Chloe ruthlessly bullies her classmates and people outside of school. It’s not far fetched to assume that she regularly bullies kids from other classes). Now, effectively friendless and a social pariah, Chloe has to endure scorn from both her school mates, adults, and the majority of Paris. She now the most hated girl in Paris.

Bustier would also wake the fuck up. I know she likes to see the best in people (to a toxic degree) and believes that love conquers all, seeing her student, the one she’s made endless excuses for, actively endanger the lives of innocent people including one of her own classmates (Marinette was on that damned train for gods sake!) should’ve been enough to shake her faith in Chloe or shatter it completely and question if she was really going about this in the right way. This also causes her to re-evaluate the way she’s been treating Marinette and her other students when comes to her blatant favoritism of Chloe. In this AU, the train incident is the last straw and Bustier decides that she isn’t going to force her students to forgive her. You know, because she almost killed one of them and it wouldn’t have been a good look. Now that her second biggest enabler has switched sides, her classmates are more encouraged to stand up for themselves and not take her shit lying down anymore. Marinette (who also pressed charges against Chloe) calls Chloe out on her crap more often, reads her the filth that she is, and isn’t cowed by her usual threats anymore. When Chloe acts up in class, Bustier holds her accountable and gives her three strikes. On the third strike, she sends Chloe to the principal’s office for the first time.

With Adrien, he finds it difficult to look at Chloe. While he defended her and brought attention to the fact that Ladybug lost a miraculous (by accident) on national TV, maybe hearing that one of his classmates almost died because of Chloe’s poorly thought out choices, might make him view Chloe in a completely different light. And since Gabriel Agreste is all about self preservation, he refuses to allow Adrien to associate with Chloe anymore. Chloe possibly looses her childhood friend and this is what finally breaks her.

In canon, Chloe is used to hatred, but refuses to acknowledge why so many people want her to rot. But this much hatred on a national, possibly even global level would be enough to destroy anyone. Especially a 13-16 year old teenager. But knowing that her best friend since diapers possibly views her as a monster is too much and she falls into despair. Because at least before Queen Wasp, people acknowledged her existence, even if the attention was primarily negative. Now Post Queen Wasp is a hell that she is solely responsible for creating. People either refuse to look and pretend she doesn’t exist, or they show her that she does exist and lash out at her in a flurry of suppressed rage and vitriol.

Her melt down comes later. At the beginning, she toed the line between not caring, and being annoyed that things weren’t going her way and that everyone was making a big deal out of nothing. No matter. Everything will blow over soon and life will go back to the status quo, with her as the Queen and everyone else as the peasants beneath her feet. But it doesn’t go away. Because unlike the show, people remember. They remember and aren’t willing to forgive or forget. And this is the first kick to the gut, not the disapproval, not the shame, but the fact that the usual routine has been changed and is unfamiliar. People like Chloe have one fear: The status quo being challenged.

A large part of the reason Chloe thinks she’s untouchable is because people aren’t willing to challenge the status quo (aside from the class beginning to stand up to her in season one). And if they do, they end up apologizing for thinking the worst of Chloe, or told to back off by other characters. If anything, every one of her victims would be well within their rights to spit in her face and double down on their worsening opinions of her. After all, Chloe hasn’t given them a reason not to. She has a record of being at her worst when people are actively challenging the status quo she’s created which riles her up into further cruelty. Now that a new status quo has been formed, one that she doesn’t have any control over, she has no power and it increasingly becomes more unbearable.

Every time someone or something deviates from the usual status quo that she’s used to, a little part of her soul dies. Her father refusing to go along with her whims anymore is another slap to her face. As Mayor Bourgeois has been her biggest supporter ever since she was a baby. In canon, Chloe has always taken her father for granted, but his disapproval wounds something deep within Chloe, which contributes to her mental break down.

This is due to the fact that Chloe is a very rigid person who thrives off of a set routine that she forces everyone around her to follow. People like this can’t accept change, and instead of learning how to adapt, they try to destroy the source of that change which just makes things worse for them. And that’s what Chloe has attempted to do. But every time she tries, she is always shut down by the people around her, which makes h things even more horrid in her eyes. If the show is any indication, Chloe cannot learn and cannot adapt because everyone always bends over or forget to hold her accountable. This does not work for a chronologically story driven show like Miraculous Ladybug. Since Queen Wasp wasn’t even the tip of the iceberg, all of the problems people have with Chloe are brought out into the open as people openly bond over the fact that she’s getting her just desserts. Right in front of her. Que tantrum and then scorn.

It’s a terrible loop in which, Chloe’s own inability to change and adapt contributes to the endless cycle until one day she breaks.

I’ve written this AU out this way because Chloe Bourgeois does not deserve a redemption to be handed to her. What she deserves are long lasting consequences and several reality checks that will force her to actually look at herself and ask herself if this is truly how she wants to live for the rest of her life. Then, and only then, will she deserve to at best have a chance redemption.

But even if she does change for the better, she isn’t owed forgiveness by anyone.

Redemption isn’t about forgiveness. It’s about personal growth.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! We can not stand ideally by and let this injustice continue! Someone needs to grow a spine and tell those oppressors to shove whatever it is they’re spewing at us up their a**! I’m talking to you Sabrina Raincomprix! You need to end that toxic “friendship” you have with Chloe and be more upfront! And you Ms.Bustier! You need to put your foot down and start disciplining Chloe for her b*tchy behavior! And I’m most definitely talking to you Damocles! You’re the God damn principal! Do your job! You worship an owl themed superhero and you’re not living up to the justice they were trying to preach to you!? Shame on you! Just how are these three gonna do that!? Let’s see:

*Confrontation-The class is taking an orientation assignment on what schools would be fitting for them regarding their future careers. It’s what they call Lycée. It’s how the French educational system works there. If one were to pursue journalism (Alya), they’d be more focused on literary courses. If one were to be a filmmaker or artist (Nino and Nathaniel, respectively), a performing art school is best! An environmentalist? (Mylene) Green Peace! A hairstylist? (for “unicorns”/“dragons” Rose) A beauty school! (Maybe she can style those flying T-rexes that now exist?) A love for helping people? (Sabrina) Nursing school. A spoiled b*tch who can do whatever the f*ck she wants cuz she’s got connections and another who can easily bullsh*t their way into life as long as they don’t get caught!? (Chloe and Lila crickets chirp) Yeah, they got no future for themselves :P. What about Adrien? He’s not modeling anymore, so what’s he gonna do!?…….he doesn’t know…….(whispers) sentibeing. With all these different goals in life, it makes them realize they won’t all be together next year and thus no more Le Resistance. Awww, that sucks.

To further sabotage Marinettes life, new class rep Lila and deputy Chloe force Sabrina to falsify the classes application forms with obscure careers (ex.Sporto Kim as a physiotherapist! Lol!) and leave Marinettes desire for fashion school untouched so as to place the blame on her with the excuse that she’s trying to get revenge on everyone for voting for Lila as class rep instead of her. The akumatized victim was Juleka who’s wish to be a mortician, (well, she is goth! But I thought she wanted to be a model!? (“Reflekdoll”). Oh well), is now saying she has to repeat the year! Again! Wait! When was this pointed out that Juleka was repeating the year? Did I miss something!? Another surprise that we were supposed to find out instead of foreshadowing!? Ugh! Whatever, she gets akumatized into her signature akumatized form, Reflekta, with her given miraculous power of The Tiger, and goes on a super megaton punching spree to vent out her frustration. Lame! But hey! I don’t have any ideas either on a villain who’s theme is repeating a school year! What would their look be!? What would their power be!? So yeah, they just…..went with what they know. The only difference is Reflekta can not only turn people into copies of herself, but also with her mind set!…..Eh.

Sabrina Raincomprix! Ms.Bustier! Principal Damocles! Let me just say, on behalf of everyone in the fandom, IT’S ABOUT F*CKING TIME! They say patience is a virtue, but whoever said that probably didn’t have anything good to keep themselves anticipated for next week! Sabrina finally put her foot down and outed Chloe and Lila as the culprits to the doctored application forms and even though Lila countered it by saying she (Sabrina) did it outta jealousy over Lila joining in the group, Sabrina did get one over on the both of ‘em when she and Marinette exposed the two over the crime and reveal Lila’s true colors. Marinette constructed a makeshift restroom with hidden microphones and a two way mirror (where did she get that!?) with help from construction workers and permission from the principal (how’d she convince him?). Although Sabrina had conspired a lot of misdeeds for Chloe, the pressure finally got too much for her as it included her whole class and trashing their future careers and it wasn’t worth it for a petty hatred against a single person. Just wish that inner courage was there seasons ago. For Ms.Bustier, she admitted she was too easy on Chloe for trying to get her to change, but she strictly tells her that from now on, it’s no more carrot! Only the stick! The cold hard stick! (Hmm, must be the pregnant hormones). Was this cathartic like we all assumed it would be!? Am I satisfied to see Chloe get busted and Lila exposed for the conniving little b*tch that she is!? NO! It wasn’t and it wasn’t cuz I was already spoiled by this, but because the girls did not actually get their comeuppance! Chloe easily got away with it through her dads mayoral connections (although Principal Damocles did stand up against Mayor Bourgeois and decided to quit so as not to be abused in hurting his own students anymore) and Lila or Cerise!? Just walked away, dropped her identity and went with another in a new school! WHO THE F*CK IS SHE!? (I’ve heard “Orphan” rumors!) Yeah, NOT SO CATHARTIC! The whole thing with “Cerise” was completely forgotten about during the reveal of how those “useless” anti-akumatizing charms work and there was no mention of anyone calling the ambassador mother about all this! Another sucky moment in all this was only Ms.Bustier apologized for not believing Marinette about “Cerise” and not Alya or any of her classmates cuz that scene was deleted for God knows why even though that would’ve been sooooooo much better for us fans to see and make it cathartic! (breathes) Now that the three I mentioned grew a spine, it’s a shame we’ll barely see any of it cuz of the remaining time the characters have before school ends and how the season is ending too. Despite that, good job Sabrina! You’ll make better friends. Ms.Bustier, show no mercy on Chloe with what little time you have with her in class (even though the next two eps are gonna be Hell!) and farewell Principal Damocles! Hope you find a new job and thanks for teaching us how those anti-akumatizing charms work! (and Congrats on breaking your speech impediment Juleka for encouraging him on that). Maybe next season we’ll see how they stay more confident and assertive?

Her new 'friend' is definitely a handful, and suddenly Paris has a supervillain and two brand new superheroes! Alya finds herself balancing a lot of things, trying to live up to her ideals and those of her icons. And then reality seems to contradict itself. As time progresses it seems to happen more often. Becoming a hero, battling villains, staying alive, working through friendships. Something is lurking, tweaking events at times, changing them, and no one seems aware. Alya will need all her wits to get to the bottom of this. Her investigative mind can only get her so far though, and then she needs to rely on her friends. This is not a foe you can beat head on.

Rooster!Sabrina AU

Before anything, read the rules.

This AU could work as a compliment to the past one (Emperor Moth AU). 

In this AU, Master Fu, believing that Ladybug and Chat Noir would need more help to fight against Hawk Moth, he ended up deciding that he would also give someone the rooster miraculous (the second more powerful one). 

How Sabrina would receive the miraculous: Chloé would send Sabrina to do something for her and tell her to be quick. She would meet with Master Fu in the middle of the way and help him. 

He would see her as worthy and give her a miraculous. 

Before you ask me, she would try to tell Chloé in the beginning. But, Chloe being Chloe, would always interrupt her every time. Eventually, though, Sabrina would understand the importance of secret identities and would stop trying. 

Solaire Plume (Her Heroine name)’s powers would work a little bit differently than in canon though. She would write a word in her notebook and it would create an alternate form to her outfit that gives her other powers, something like the Max Steel different forms, the effects on Yume Nikki, or the power of Seamstress in @natedogx15​ ‘s Miraculous Descendentant AU. 

Her introduction could be set in season 1 or season 2 beginnings, 2hich means it could happen in Origins (part 1 or 2), or The Collector. Perhaps some chapters in between, like EvillIllustrator, Befana, Riposte... or another.

Sabrina’s arc in this AU would be slowly finding confidence in her already existing skills (it was revealed in one of the miraculous secrets episodes she is the second best student in class, only after Adrien) and slowly drift apart from Chloe. 

Besides, she would join the art club, make friends with Marinette, Marc, Nathaniel and Alix, and becoming the class president on her own.

She and Marinette would find out about each other’s identities in either Volpina or Heroes Day. 

Season 3, though, would be the highest point on the Sabrina’s arc. Sabrina, being so smart, would notice Lila’s lies, and would hate what she is doing to the class. 

Why? She was Chloe’s servant for years, and she doesn’t want anyone else to follow the same fate. This would lead to some complicated situation between her and the class. Fortunately, she would be on Marinette’s side. 

(Then, this whole idea I discussed with Nate could happen) 

Season 4 would be interesting for Sabrina facing the Lila and Chloe alliance, this powerful Akumas and needing to make a new supehero team that she can trust. 

And... the rest you guys can decide!

Something that really annoys me from those salt fics where Marinette&Co make their own fundraisers for a class trip (besides the fact that reading about all the events and how much they raise on each one get tiresome; or how with 40000 or less a whole class can practically travel around the world) is how they keep putting that Chloé’s  the one who knows how to make the arrangements for fundraisers, hotel reservations, school dances, talk with the school board and everything else that comes with the responsibility of being that class representative from previous experience. She doesn't; as class president the most job she probably did was offering the hotel, bullying Damocles into agreeing with whatever she asked or throwing her father's money to cover the expenses and call it a day.

You know who'd had that previous experience? Who balanced the workload of class president AND deputy along with her own responsibilities? Sabrina freaking Raincomprix.

Sabrina made the arraignments for class trips, Sabrina talked to the school board for different issues, Sabrina came up with the fundraisers and called the companies to organize said events. Pretty much like Marinette in some class salt fics Sabrina did all of that and more for a class that hated her while still handling the gigantic and thankless job of being Chloé personal lackey. 

You can't come here and tell me that Chloé Bourgeois actually handled all the bureaucratic' issues with being class representative when its canon that she didn't even made her own homework (if she started doing it after becoming Queen Bee's still under discussion) since she was in kindergarden.

As much as I like the idea of a redemption arc for Chloé (I like the trope of an evil character realizing what they doing it's wrong and fighting to become a better person) one can’t erase the fact that she was an awful and lazy person who let others do all her work for her. That's an insult for the real previous class representative in everything but title.

A Sabrina Drabble

A short story I wrote for Sabrina, the idea came from a talk with @bringtheraincomprix and @ofekma who are both lovely ladies.

it’s a story in which Sabrina and Chloé are turning 10, and Sabrina comes to learn that Chloé doesn’t do birthdays.

Sabrina smoothed the edges of the purple and yellow envelope for the hundredth time, making sure the edges were perfect. She could barely sit still in her seat, her new friend Chloé usually got to school in good time, so there should be time to talk before class started. She was so excited, she’d never had a close friend like Chloé before, she thought she was gonna spend her entire school life as a loser, but then the most popular girl in school actually spoke to her! She couldn’t believe it. Maybe her dad had been right for once, now that they were coming into the double digits age-wise, the others would become more mature and they’d have more in common with her. It had sounded like hopeful dad-talk, but it was actually true!

Sabrina practically jumped out of her seat when the door opened and the beautiful and amazing Chloé came through. She could barely believe that Chloé never seemed to have a bad hair-day, barely ever anything imperfect about her. Sabrina had maybe a one in three shot of her hair not looking like an American football helmet, and those odds were being generous. If she kept getting closer to Chloé maybe she’d share some of her secrets, maybe one day they could walk in the door together, with perfect hair and everyone would be jealous but also love them.

Sabrina realized by the look on Chloé’s face that she was going to have to be strategic, stifle her excitement a bit, the yellow haired goddess was in a sour mood for some reason. This conversation would require a gentle touch, and maybe an extension into recess, but that was fine, there was no rush, and if Chloé was upset she wanted to help her!

Chloé sat down next to Sabrina, sitting prim and proper and getting out her things. If it wasn’t for the aggressive speed and tightly curled lip it’d be hard to see that she was annoyed, but she was, very annoyed in fact. Sabrina allowed her desk partner to finish up. She steeled herself, placing the envelope into her bag and took a deep breath.

“Morning Chloé” she smiled. Chloé gave her a glance as response, not a scowl, just an acknowledgement; this wasn’t going to be easy.

“Did you um… do your math homework? I thought it was especially tough this week!” she tried, hoping to get to the bottom of the issue. Chloé sighed frustrated, it wasn’t the cause of the issue, rather the issue had made her forget, and now she was more annoyed, good job Sabrina.

“You can have mine if you want” she smiled, taking her notebook out and putting it in front of Chloé. The angelic girl’s tough exterior softened a bit.

“you sure? I don’t have time to copy it, what will you hand in?”

Sabrina shook her head “It’s fine! You had that emergency last week and forgot to do your math then too. This way you won’t get in trouble, and I can forget to do my homework once in awhile too without it being a big thing” she smiled at Chloé, who placed a hand on the notebook, smiling.

“You’re a really good friend Sabrina” she said, opening up the book and taking out the page with the assignment. Seeing Chloé’s smile almost made Sabrina squee with joy.

“This is the only time though ok? I’m not gonna start doing your homework.”

“Of course! But you’re really good at this school thing. Maybe you can come over sometime and help me with it? Like once a week or something”

Sabrina stifled a gasp “I would love to! It’s going to be really easy with the two of us! And hanging out at your house sounds amazing!”

“It’s a deal then” Chloé smiled.

Sabrina brushed hair behind her ear, she’d gotten Chloé’s mood back up AND planned a weekly studydate with Chloé! This was already the best day ever and she hadn’t even said the best thing yet.

“so Chloé. do you have any big plans next month?” she probed.

“not really no.” she said, evidently intrigued.

“nothing? no big… events coming up next month? February?” she tried. Chloé’s small smile fell into a frown, making Sabrina know to stop playing games.

“it’s your birthday right?” she asked, keeping up her excited smile, which quickly froze as Chloé’s expression turned cold as ice. “how do you know that?” Chloé asked coldly, her ice petrifying Sabrina in her seat, she couldn’t fathom what she could have possibly said wrong.

“um Facebook um… I read your profile and…”

“tsk. so you’re what? a stalker?”

“no! no no! I just! I wanted to know what you wanted so I could get the perfect gift!”

“hmph, don’t you know birthdays are for kids and fundraisers only? If you want to get all your little friends together and rent a clown, that’s your life I guess. Me? I don’t do that kids stuff.” Chloé’s words cut into Sabrina like a knife, she felt like running away, but her body refused to move. She had to find a way to save herself, repair the damage before their budding friendship bled out on the classroom floor.

“y… yea… totally. No you’re right. I’m just not as mature as you Chloé.” Chloe scoffed and turned her head.

“that’s why I’m so lucky! that you help me be more mature! You’re like the coolest person in all of Paris! and you want to hang out with me!? I’m just so lucky!”

Chloe casually moved her ponytail “I guess that’s true.” she said coldly, but it seemed she was sated, crisis averted, and just in time for class to start. There was no way she was going to bring up birthdays again that day, or anytime soon!

Later when school was out, Sabrina said goodbye to Chloé and climbed into her dads car. Her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions, a tornado that had been swirling since the beginning of the day, now a vortex that filled her being.

“how was your day honey?” her dad asked with his usual dad-like demeanor.

“it was great! Chloé and I agreed to make a studygroup once a week!”

“that’s great honey! did you talk about the birthday?”

“we agreed not to have one” she said nonchalantly.

“what? but pumpkin you were so excited about it”

“birthdays are for kids dad!” she snapped at him, angrier than she’d meant to be.

“what!? you thought we’d like… get a clown! and and… and a bouncy castle!? that’s kids stuff! we don’t do that stuff anymore!”

“but you love clowns honey…” her dad said concerned.

“ugh maybe a million years ago! You just don’t understand!”

“but we worked so hard on that invitation to show Chloé…”

“whatever! it was… it was for a joke ok!? It was just to show how stupid the whole thing was!” Sabrina janked the envelope from her bag, ripping it open and looking at it.

“Chloé and Sabrina turn 20!”

She felt a cavalcade of emotions rising up, remembering how excited she’d been to find out Chloé and her turned ten less than a month apart. Sabrina could feel her fingers trembling at the card, she wanted to rip it up and destroy the dumb thing, but her hands wouldn’t move. She felt warm tears begin running down her face. It was ok, while no one was looking she’d cry like a baby just one more time. She swore though, that from tomorrow onwards, no more kids stuff.
